The Poverty Premium

It has long been recognised that people experiencing poverty face a range of social penalties – including stigma, exclusion and low status; but there has been little acknowledgement of the financial penalties that exist, and result in poor families paying more for a range of basic essentials. Our report, produced with Save the Children, examines the financial penalties borne by low income families and outlines seven steps to eradicate the poverty premium.

The Christmas Poverty Premium In 2009 we produced a new report on the Christmas Poverty Premium which highlights the extra financial demands placed upon low-income families at this expensive time of year.

Linda Howard, who uses our service in Herne Bay, was interviewed for the BBC Politics Show along with Rhian Beynon, our head of Policy and Campaigns. Take a look at the article on the BBC website.
