The families who apply for a grant from us find themselves in desperate situations for any number of reasons; illness, domestic violence, divorce or bereavement can all have a devastating impact on the lives of families already disadvantaged by poverty. Families come to us because the State won't help them, and they have nowhere else to turn. Their needs are often pitifully small – children’s clothing, or a new bed; whilst some are larger – a fridge or cooker – but they are the basic necessities of life for families struggling to feed their children and keep them clean, comfortable and healthy.
Often these are families whose worries could be eased immediately if only we could afford to give them a very modest grant. You can imagine how hard it is for our volunteers to say no - and yet, because our funds are limited, sometimes it simply isn't possible to help.
Please give a gift of £25 today so that families like Daniel’s, who are already coping with so much, don’t have to do without basic necessities?

Our long history of helping families in hardship
140 years ago the Family Action was set up to help needy families in Victorian Britain. In the 21st century, you might have thought our work would no longer be needed. But quite the opposite is true. Today in Britain, almost 4 million children are being brought up on or below the poverty line. A staggering 1.4million children are growing up in families whose income falls significantly below the poverty line.
