Family Action transforms lives by providing practical, emotional and financial support to those who are experiencing poverty, disadvantage and social isolation across the country.

We have been building stronger families since 1869 – today working with over 60,000 families a year in our 200 community-based services, as well as supporting thousands more through our national programmes and our grants programmes.

Reaching out to those in need, we strengthen families and communities, build skills and resilience and improve the life chances of everyone we work with.

Our services are innovative; we believe in the strengths within families and our approach to support which can achieve maximum impact. We seek to empower everyone we work with so we add significant value – to the lives of services users, to those who commission services and to those who create policy and influence change for the future.  Find out more about how we monitor and evaluate our work.

Family Action has a strong and successful history of building stronger families, and as we look to the future our values and behaviours define us and underpin all the work we do. We can achieve our ambitions by always:

  • Being people focused
  • Reflecting a ‘can do’ approach
  • Striving for excellence in everything we do
  • Having mutual respect for everyone we work with, work for and support through our services

Family Action’s commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Family Action has core values of “People Focus” and “Mutual Respect” and those values are deeply rooted in our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.  We are privileged to work with people from very diverse communities and backgrounds who are united in needing our support.

Family Action understands that we can achieve so much more as an organisation if our staff group reflects the diversity of the communities we serve and we strive to do this in all our recruitment and service development.

We are committed as an organisation to treating our service users, our volunteers, our partners and each other with dignity and respect and to embracing our individual and collective diversity.

As Chief Executive I want everyone who works or volunteers at Family Action to bring their whole selves to work and to be proud of who they are. If we model this as an organisation then we can only be more effective in helping and supporting our service users.

Family Action is committed to encouraging diversity, promoting equal opportunities, and providing fair treatment in all that we do. We strive for an environment that is inclusive, free from discrimination and where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Family Action has a clear vision and mission which are supported by strong values. These values are reflected in all our work, as well as in our professional relationships by always:

  • Being people focused
  • Reflecting a ‘can do’ approach
  • Striving for excellence in everything we do
  • Having mutual respect for everyone we work with, work for and support as an organisation

We believe that people with different backgrounds, skills, attitudes and experiences bring fresh ideas and perceptions to the workplace. We seek to encourage and harness these differences in order to meet the changing needs of our service users and to make the most of our talented staff, volunteers, trustees and partners and our generous funders and supporters.

Responsibility

Family Action has an Equality and Diversity Steering group, which consists of Diversity Champions, to support and advise on best practice, whilst also leading on delivery of equality and diversity initiatives.

All services and staff have a responsibility to ensure equality and diversity is a consideration throughout recruitment, service development and service delivery. In addition to this, the Equality and Diversity Steering group, in collaboration with HR, coordinate and maintain the Investors in Diversity Action Plan, which defines how we will deliver our legal obligations and strategic objectives.

Dealing with discrimination and complaints

Family Action does not tolerate the bullying, harassment, victimisation or discrimination of any employee, volunteer or service user in any capacity. We take allegations of this nature very seriously, and implement robust and fair policies to support the investigation of any such allegations. We do this through utilisation of the Anti-bullying and Harassment Policy and the Complaints Policy.
