Welfare Caps

The Welfare Reform Bill legislates for the creation of a cap on welfare payments for families. This is effectively a cap on the overall household benefit receipt. The Department for Work and Pensions estimates suggest that 50,000 families will be affected, each losing an average of £93 per week.

Family Action is concerned that this change will seriously affect couples. An assessment of the welfare cap carried out by Family Action highlights the negative impact of the changes on families.
