Applying for an Education Grant: What you need to know

When to applyApplications can be made at any time.

We cannot make grants to applicants who have received a grant within the previous 12 months.

How to applyApplications must be made using our online application process. We regret no paper applications can be accepted.

Who can applyApplications can be made directly by the individual seeking funding.

How funding decisions are madeOn receipt of all the information requested, the application will be considered at the next available meeting of Family Action's Grants Panel of independent volunteers.

Based on the application form and supporting documentation, the Grants Panel will decide whether to approve a grant and the size of the grant.

Information about the progress of an application

  • Receipt of applications: On receipt of the completed online application an acknowledgement of receipt will be sent out immediately by email. The email will contain details of the supporting information we need in order to consider the application and a deadline for receipt.
  • Reminder: If we have not received all required supporting documents 5 days before the deadline for receipt an email will be sent to the applicant reminding them to send the required information and informing them that if they are not received, or an explanation of why they cannot be provided, the application will not be considered.
  • Receipt of all supporting documents: On receipt of all supporting documents we will email the applicant confirming receipt and inform them of the date of the meeting at which their application will be considered.
  • Where we are able to help: We will email the individual AND the place of study providing details of the grants purpose (what it is for) and amount.  Payment will be made by BACS to the place of study. Under no circumstances will cheques be made payable to individuals.
  • Where we are unable to help: Given the large volume of applications we received and the limited funds available we are unable to assist in every case. We will write to the individual who submitted the application informing them that we are unable to help.   We regret we are unable to provide specific reasons or provide feedback on individual applications where a grant is not awarded.

We regret that we are unable to give information about the Grants Panel’s decisions by telephone.
