Independent Visitors are volunteers who befriend and support young people in care. Do you think you have what it takes to make a positive difference to the life of a child or young person? If so, please get in touch - we are recruiting for independent visitors to begin in early 2013.
What would a volunteer need to do?We need volunteers to help a child or young person, by taking them out, doing activities together and building a trusting, stable relationship. These children and young people will have infrequent or little contact with their parents.
If you are successful, you will find out more about the child or young person you're partnered with during training.
What kind of person are we looking for? You will need to be reliable, consistent and have a passion for improving the lives of children and young people.
You will need to commit to undertake a group workshop, interview and training. You will provide a young person with regular once a month visits/outings for a minimum of 18 months. You will be required to work flexibly as outings might need to take place on weekends or evenings.
In exchange we can offer you the full support and benefits of volunteering within Family Action. Family Action offers excellent support and an online learning and development programme.
What's the process?Joining us is simple. After your initial application there will be a group workshop where you get the opportunity to find out more about the role. After this we will undertake a CRB check and interview. If you are successful you will be offered a place on our training programme and matched to a young person.
We welcome applications from all sections of the community. Please note that appointments are subject to Family Action receiving an enhanced disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau which we consider acceptable.
We look forward to hearing from you, and thank you for looking to support Family Action - it is through the support of individals such as you, that means we're able to support a young person and give them the chance to build friendships that will make a positive difference to their lives.
