“Things were going from bad to worse, my family was falling apart and my son was seriously unhappy. The doctor gave me more tablets and told me to come back in a month but I felt that I didn’t have a month. I tried to take an overdose. It was then that I knew I needed help and it came at just the right time. I got a phone call to say that my doctor had made a referral and a lady from Family Action's Building Bridges project would like to come to my home to see if they could help me.
"“Building Bridges has been a lifesaver. Our family support worker is amazing; she has kept me from losing everything I hold dear to me and has made us a family again. My son has been brought together with the Young Carers project, and they give him an escape from his everyday life.”
I listened to everything that they had to say but more importantly they listened to what I had to say and that was the difference.
Building Bridges has been a lifesaver. Our family support worker is amazing; she has kept me from losing everything I hold dear to me and has made us a family again. My son has been brought together with the Young Carers project, and they give him an escape from his everyday life. It allows him to be a young man and to realise that he has choices of his own.
It is still hard and some days are worse than others but I know there is always someone I can turn to. So while I have the chance I would also like to include a huge Thank You to each and every one of the people who have helped me and my family. You all know who you are.”
