How do I apply for a Family Action Educational Grant?
Applicants for Family Action’s Educational Grants must first complete the Educational Grants Search.
Applications for Family Action Educational Grants, the Horizons Education Fund and the Family Action Prisoners’ Fund can be made at any time. Horizons grant applications need to arrive two weeks prior to the meeting dates published on the application form.
We cannot consider letters as applications. Applications must be made using the appropriate grant application form. Application forms are revised from time to time so please download the latest version from the website; applications made on out of date versions of the application form cannot be considered.
Applications require various supporting documents, details are provided in the guidance at the beginning of the application forms.
Incomplete applications and applications without all the requested supporting documents cannot be considered and will be returned.
We cannot make grants to applicants who have received a Family Action Educational Grant within the previous 12 months.
What cannot be funded?
Family Action Educational and Prisoners’ Funds are not available for:
• items already covered by statutory funding• private school fees• costs already incurred• childcare costs• daily living expenses• postgraduate studies

How are funding decisions made?
On receipt of all the information requested, applications for Family Action Educational Grants and Prisoners’ Funds will be submitted to the next available meeting of Family Action's Grants Panel for consideration. Based on the application form and supporting documentation, the Grants Panel will decide whether to approve a grant and the size of the grant.
When will I hear about the progress of my application?
Family Action's grants service is run by a small team processing a large number of applications each week. We are unable to acknowledge the receipt of applications. All applicants will be informed of the result of the Panel's decision in writing, usually within 21 working days of all the required information being received by Family Action. We regret we are unable to provide the result of the Grants Panel decisions by telephone.
Where a grant is made the cheque will be made payable to the place of study, referring agency or service provider. Under no circumstances will cheques be made payable to individuals.
