Since its creation in 1869, Family Action has been strengthening families in crisis through practical, emotional and financial support. In the 1900s we trained the first paid social workers. In the 1930s we created the first Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
Today, our services are needed more than ever. Family Action runs more than 140 services across the country supporting over 45,000 families. We are delivering the National School Breakfast Programme which will provide breakfast for up to 200,000 children who otherwise would be too hungry to learn. Last year we co-ordinated some of the earliest support to families directly affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
But the number of ordinary families facing pressures is still generally unrecognised. Nearly 38 million people in Britain admit to facing pressures that affect their close family. This is why, as part of next year’s 150th anniversary, we are starting a national conversation about the pressures that families face – the Family Monsters Project.
And, more importantly, your membership will help power new initiatives from Family Action such as the launch of Familyline, a national out-of-hours virtual service for parents and carers.
To become a Friends of the Family member, we are inviting donations of £1,500 a year, either as an annual donation or £125 per month.
Higher rate tax payers can claim back an additional 20%. This means that a £1,875 donation (£1,500 plus gift aid) can cost as little as £1,125 (by claiming £375 back from HMRC).
