    Read Lisa's story

Family Action has helped Lisa through our Family Support Service and Welfare Grants Programme to help get her back on her feet and provide a stable environment for her family.

When we first met Lisa, she was heavily pregnant and had escaped from her abusive and violent husband. He had been sent to prison and had left her with a large number of debts and outstanding bills.

Scared and lonely, Lisa was struggling to cope and became very depressed. She had no one to turn to and couldn’t see how she was going to manage when her baby was born.

Family Action provided Lisa with a support worker, Amma. Amma helped Lisa regain some of her confidence and self esteem and supported her to prepare for the birth of her baby. Amma worked with Lisa to create a budget she could stick to and applied for a £200 welfare grant to pay a pending electricity bill, ensuring she could keep the house warm.

With Amma’s support and encouragement, Lisa and her baby son are settled and happy. Lisa is loving motherhood, has moved to a new flat and hopes to start a college course when her son is older.
