South Tees Perinatal Support Service
South Tees Perinatal Support Service: Improving Wellbeing and Attachment
We provide emotional support to families where a parent is struggling with their emotional health or well-being from birth up to the child’s 2nd birthday. The Perinatal Support Service is for parents who have, or are at significant risk of developing, mild to moderate mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression.
We provide support to parents by providing a Perinatal Coordinator or Practitioner who can offer emotional support and help to access services in your local community. We can support parents birth up until their baby’s 2nd birthday.
We support families according to their needs and situation. We listen to individual family needs and provide emotional and practical support to improve outcomes for the whole family. This is undertaken via one to one support, therapeutic playgroups, access to Family Hubs and other specialist services.
The service provides the majority of support within the home however staff and volunteers may also accompany families to group sessions at local venues or meet with parents outside the home if isolation is an issue to help them access support services and Family Hubs. Support is tailored according to the needs of the family.
We also offer group work. Our therapeutically based group helps parents to discover the benefits play can have on their baby’s development. The group supports parents to connect and bond with their baby through fun games and interaction using the practices and principles of Theraplay.
Pregnant women or parents of children up to the age of 2; identified as potentially benefiting from this service can be referred by their midwife, doctor, health visitor, Family Hub or other involved specialist services. Families can also find out about accessing the service directly by contacting Family Action on [email protected] or by telephone on 01642 062714.
