BAND has over 30 years’ experience of supporting people with lived experience of a mental health condition. We work to improve the quality of their lives using Recovery Focused Approaches. With co-production at the heart of all we do, we build close relationships with the people who come to BAND. As a result, we are able to develop services that are safe, responsive and appropriate to the people who use them.

Our support recognises each person’s individual circumstance and we work in a way that builds on people’s strengths. We support people to find solutions to challenges. BAND’s high quality services are delivered by a dedicated team of paid staff and volunteers. Many of us have lived experience ourselves and we recognise and celebrate the value that peer support brings to our work.

How it works

Our recovery model recognises that people need different kinds of support at different times during their recovery and we therefore aim to provide services that:

  • Offer hands on help and guidance when people are struggling with benefits, housing, access to services etc
  • Provide support to attend appointments
  • Help to grow self-esteem and self confidence
  • Support people to understand when their symptoms have a negative impact on their lives, and to find ways to overcome this
  • Encourage and motivate people to make positive changes
Increase social contact with other people

We do this through:

  • Information and support (for things like benefits and housing)
  • One to one support (befriending and mentoring)
  • Shared interest and activity groups
  • Social groups
  • Life skills courses

How you can help

We rely on the support of our local community to be able to continue to help people with their mental health. Take a look below at the ways you can get involved

Volunteer

2-3 hours a week can make a massive difference to someone’s life. Our volunteers support helps people to:

  • Make new friends
  • Learn new skills
  • Get better at dealing with problems
  • Access the right help at the right time
  • Build their self confidence and self esteem have the opportunity for a visit from someone when they are in hospital

Our volunteers also gain a great deal from working with us. People make new friends, learn new skills, gain new interests and have the satisfaction of knowing that they are offering a helping hand along the way.

Find out more about volunteering with us here or read some of our volunteer stories to see the difference you can make.

Fundraise

We need to raise £200,000 per year to maintain our current services. We raise this money by applying for contracts and grants but without the support of individuals and other organisations we couldn’t continue to offer our wide range of services and projects. We’re so grateful to all of our supporters including the organisations below, who help us support the Bolton community.
