Bolton based Community Mental Health project repair shop for pc’s and laptops
We are open to the public to provide a low-cost solution to repair broken IT equipment. Our team of dedicated volunteers, diagnose the fault or issue, provide a quote and then fix the issue, run FIX IT. If we are unable to repair the issue, then there is no charge. Prices start from £10 for minor repairs and for standard repairs; it is £35 plus the cost of parts, (if needed).
We sell refurbished laptops, pcs and all the peripherals. Each refurbished machine comes with the latest version of Windows (we are a registered refurbisher with Microsoft) and a 90-day guarantee.
As well as solving issues with equipment, we run training courses for those who wish to learn more about computers and how to repair equipment. Our 12-week placement course involves a student matched with a volunteer and then working through our course, one session per week.
FIX IT is a part of BAND a Bolton based Community Mental Health Project. Our service provides an inclusive, nurturing and friendly environment for people to learn about computer repair and refurbishment at their own pace. The 12-week placement covers a range of topics, from hardware to software, installation procedures, fault finding and building a pc from scratch.
We support people who have a lived experience of a mental health condition and live in the Bolton area or registered with a Bolton GP. We recruit volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, for example, people who wish to gain experience before moving onto work, those that have been service users themselves or those that wish to give their time to help others. Full training is provided before commencing volunteering.
We rely on donations of computers, laptops, tablets and other IT equipment to keep this unique and valuable project going. No donation is too large or too small, have you recently upgraded and have a machine in a cupboard at home? Are you a business that is changing an office layout or have a pile of old machines in a basement? Please get in touch.
As a registered Microsoft Refurbisher there are strict guidelines that we follow. This includes securely clearing any data that is on equipment. Certificates of donation and confirmation of data destruction are provided. We are able to collect donations in Greater Manchester, but please note: we are unable to accept printers or CRT monitors.
Do you have computer knowledge/repair skills that you could share with others? We are always looking for new volunteers that want to make a difference.
We are based in Victoria Hall, which is based off Ridgeway Gates, Bolton, BL1 2AF.
