Would you like to gain experience or share your skills? Why not volunteer?
Hi, I am Lisa Morrow, Family Action Volunteer and Engagement Worker for Barrow`s 0-19 Child and Family Support Service. I have been with the organisation (under other providers) since October 2005, initially as a Volunteer Breastfeeding Supporter and Community Parent, then moving into Business Support. Admin has been much of my working life until the 1st March this year, when I was successful in landing the role of Volunteer & Engagement Worker.
A key part of my role is to drive forward a volunteering strategy across the area and engage with local communities, service users and stakeholders to ensure the recruitment of a diverse, skilled and experienced volunteer team, much of this is being done virtually at present due to the current CoVid19 situation.
Volunteering has been at the heart of Family Action since we were established in 1869, run solely by volunteers. Volunteers are such a valuable asset, adding great value to our organisation and supporting us in meeting our objectives. They bring with them a wealth of experience and skills and a varied range of knowledge. They help us build links in the local community and contribute to this by supporting the people in it. They can also help inspire the development of services by providing new ideas.
We are looking for volunteers to join our local service to help us deliver our support to children, young people and families. We do this in the following ways:
As a volunteer you will gain valuable skills and experience working as part of a team making a real difference to the lives of children, young people and families. Here are a few ways you can give your time;
We offer a volunteer induction to help you prepare for your role, and our Family Action eLearning provides you with a certificate for each subject covered, which is great for adding to your CV. On-going training, including access to staff training (if appropriate), and out-of-pocket expenses are provided, plus supervision and support to ensure your volunteering is going well. Volunteering is a great pathway into work. Family Action can provide you with experience and support you to develop your skills. We currently have 4 dedicated volunteers and 5 applicants in the recruitment process.
Please note – if you are successful, your services will not be required until we are back safely working from our Centres.
