Family Action offers weekly FOOD Clubs to reduce food waste and to provide families with a variety of low-cost food every week. We currently operate the clubs in Greater Manchester and Bristol with the help of our wonderful volunteers.

Our aims

FOOD Club aims to help families in financial hardship and to make life more affordable for people on a low income. We often help families who are struggling to afford the everyday basics, especially those with children under five years old. FOOD Club welcomes anyone who needs our help – young families, single parents, refugees and the elderly all use our service.

‘Without places like these we’d go hungry.’

Our approach

Our food is sourced from a partnership with national charity Fareshare, which redistributes surplus food from major food retailers. Once someone has become a member of the FOOD Club scheme (it costs just £1 to join), they are offered a variety of food at the low cost of £3.50 per week.

‘It helps people who don’t want to go to a food bank.’

Our impact

From the feedback we receive, we know our Food Clubs make a huge difference to members. People tell us the club has changed their lives massively and that they couldn’t live without it. As well as being financially better off, our members say they eat more healthily, as the food they receive challenges them to try new foods. They tell us:

‘I thought it an opportunity you couldn’t miss.’
