The London Borough of Croydon and Family Action have received funding to co-ordinate free holiday activities and food provision during the 2019 summer holidays for disadvantaged school children.

Project aims

The Holiday Food and Fun programme aims to:

  • ensure there is enough good-quality free holiday provision to meet the demand from children eligible for free school meals (FSM) in the borough during the 2019 summer holidays
  • develop a more efficient and joined-up approach to free holiday activities and food provision in Croydon
  • explore models for the sustainability of provision in future school holidays.

We can provide grants to local partners (such as charities, schools, children’s centres, sports providers and leisure centres) that would be interested in delivering holiday sessions during the summer, as well as training, resources and ongoing support.

Local partners will be expected to run a minimum of 16 sessions during the Summer 2019 holidays (four sessions a week for four weeks; four hours per session), either just for children or for whole families. Each session to include:

  • a free healthy meal and snacks meeting School Food Standards
  • physical and food-related activities (e.g. food preparation, budgeting)
  • a wide range of other enrichment activities (e.g. arts and crafts).
