Islington & Camden Young Carers Service

Islington & Camden Young Carers (ICYC) works with young carers, their families and professionals across Islington & Camden. We work to build on each families strengths, combining practical and emotional support to achieve agreed outcomes and empower young carers and their families. We can offer whole family support, mentor support, and help to engage young carers with their local youth offer to reduce isolation. We also offer consultation support for professionals working with young people and families, and offer advice, guidance and resources for use with young carers.

How it works

We take referrals from professionals, families and young people and following referral offer an holistic young carer and family assessment is completed to explore what support is needed, and how we can help. An individual support action plan is agreed with each family and support is offered to empower the family to make positive changes.

We work to help reduce the level of caring activity young people provide and help to reduce any negative impacts experienced as a result of caring for example: working to help a young carer reduce their worry, stress or anxiety, as well as support young carers to feel mentally healthy and engage with education and social opportunities.

ICYC also offers support to schools and professionals working with children, young people and families to ensure that effective support is being put in place for Young Carers. The support we offer here aims to help staff identify the signs that someone may be a young carer, assess their needs and consider how they can offer support in their role, and know when/where to refer young carers for additional support.
