Looked After Children Support Services
Improving life opportunities for looked after children by providing the stability and support they need to grow and flourish.
“I really felt that my Independent Visitor was there for me”
There is much evidence that suggests that looked after children achieve poor outcomes, with particular issues around poor education attainment, mental health issues, drug and alcohol dependency as adults, and teenage pregnancies.
We strongly believe that these children should have the same life opportunities and chances as their peers with opportunities to build close bonds with their sibling and peers, to do well at school, and to access higher education or rewarding jobs. Our aim is to provide stability and support to enable the young person to build confidence, explore and develop life skills.

Family Action’s focus is on the child’s voice and we adopt a befriending model of care.
Our Birth Parents Support Services use a volunteer befriender model to support parents following a decision by the local authority for their children to be adopted out of the family.
If you are interested in supporting these services as a volunteer ‘Buddy’ or as an Independent Visitor please visit our Volunteering pages.
We have an outcomes based approach and work closely with the Children in Care Council to ensure our services are meeting this group of young people’s need. We involve children in care in the designing and development of the service and seek routine feedback from all young people accessing the service to ensure it is fully meeting their needs.
