Family Champion

About this role

We are looking for volunteers to show families around our Children's Centres and to support them to confidently access the services offered

What is the time commitment?

This role is for 3 hours per week approximately. Minimum commitment for 6 months.

Who will you be helping?

Families, Parents

You will be helping families to engage with the Children's Centres and to access the sessions and services offered. It can be difficult to attend children's centres for the first time – you will be offering support and increasing confidence so that families are comfortable and happy to come back

What difference will you make?

You will be supporting parents and carers to feel confident to attend sessions at the children's centres – extending their own support networks and their knowledge and understanding of child development

It can be difficult going to a Children's centre for the first time. You would be showing new families around the centre and supporting them to attend sessions, and the Parent Carer panels, until they gain the confidence to attend independently. You will be helping parents and carers to increase confidence, friendships, and their knowledge of how to support their child's development though accessing sessions at the Centres.

Who are we looking for?

There is no typical Family Action volunteer. We want our volunteers to be as diverse as the people we support. We need volunteers with a range of life experiences, skills and knowledge to. In return for giving your time and talents, you will receive quality training, ongoing support, and the reward of knowing that you are making a real difference. This role will particularly suit volunteers who:

  • Have good relationship skills and a warm approachable manner
  • Have an understanding of the need for professional boundaries
  • Have positive experience at Children's Centres, early years education, or family activities and services

What's in it for you?

Family Action volunteers tell us that volunteering with us can be challenging at times, but it is also very rewarding. Many of our volunteers also report that they have enjoyed

  • Induction training to develop your knowledge and skills before you begin volunteering
  • The opportunity to improve future employment prospects
  • Making a difference to families in your community
